A solid performance from the under 16’s visiting the Hanbury Stadium. 

First half saw The wasps dominate proceedings with Will Speake and Ben Lovelock dominating proceedings down the left hand side. Although goalless at half time Eg Town should have found the net a a couple of occasions. Firstly when Ben Lovelocks pinpoint cross found Rohith Jose only 6 yards out but the attacking midfielder failed to take the opportunity. Just before halftime the Hayward’s Heath gk got down smartly to save from Harvey burgess ensuring the game was goalless at half time. 

Second half saw EG up the dominance with Harvey Burgess hitting both the lost and cross bar a few minutes apart before Burgess got away down the left side of the box before smartly pulling the ball back for George Boynton coming onto the ball smartly finishing first time from 10 yards to give the wasps a well deserved lead after 49 mins. 

The wasps continued to press when Harvey Burgess was brought down in the box after 69 mins for a penalty kick. Burgess took the resulting spot kick himself. Smashing the ball into the roof of the net and his 11th of the season. 

A few chances went begging with Hayward heaths keeper continuing to pull off saves as the tie finished 2-0 to EG Town u16’s. 

Ben Knight was a well deserved MotM. Also stand in captain Josh Varney as well as Will Speake, Lewis Buchanan and Callum Cave with performances of worthy note. 

The under 16’s face Crawley United in the 2nd round but first face Tunbridge Wells Foresters Wednesday evening the 23rd as they return to league action
