Matt talks Phoenix / VCD

Very disappointed in us on Saturday against Phoenix, after the week before where we showed so much quality and energy. Both where missing in abundance Saturday and Phoenix where worthy and rightly winners on the day there’s certainly no grey areas there. The games this season where the pitches haven’t allowed us to play and teams have matched and out worked us have been an issue, and the level of consistency has to be better next year. We have proven we can match the best teams but we haven’t done the same against teams around us so much, so that’s an area to improve next season and the players and staff know that the players deserved all the praise they got after the Hythe game but certainly have to take some responsibility for the performance Saturday. The rest of that responsibility lays with me as the manager and you have to take the rough and smooth in this game or not be in it and I’ve been in it long enough to know this game has a tendency to kick you where it hurts when you think you have cracked it and I reminded the players of that after the game.

This Saturday we play the last team fighting for a play off spot in VCD. We beat them at home in a game where RJ marshalled arguably the best forward in the league, Charlie Mc Donald, so well it helped us win the game. With Charlie and Ali Fuseni a major threat and if on song, they are a real handful, so we will have to make sure we get it right tactically against them to stop that threat as well as impose ourselves on them in an attacking sense.

One thing I will be sure of is that the players will respond correctly after last week they have a point to prove and after a number of good performances I’m backing them to get back to that this week. We owe the supporters and club a performance after last Saturday and we will be doing all we can to go and win the game.

Thanks again

Matt
